Testing

Psychological

Psychological testing is mostly focused on three domains:

    a) Cognitive Functioning: What are the strengths and weaknesses relative to verbal comprehension, spatial and nonverbal reasoning skills, memory and attention, problem solving, impulse control and judgment?

b) Academic Functioning: Is the student at grade level according to national norms? Is there evidence of learning disabilities? What has school performance dropped off? Are there specific reasons for why this student struggles and what remedies are called for? What are reasonable academic expectations?

c) Emotional Functioning: Is there an underlying emotional cause that explains this child's behavior? Testing will most often uncover evidence of depression, anxiety, defiance and anger, eating and sleep disorders, identity and self-esteem functioning, substance abuse, social insensitivity, and childhood abuse. An assessment of risk for self-harm and suicide, aggression and compliance with treatment will be made.
